VIC:Shot woman refused to drop knife - police

A police sergeant shouted to a woman wielding a knife to drop the weapon before he
shot her in Melbourne's north this afternoon.

It came after a wild domestic argument where she reportedly attacked a vehicle with
a pick-axe after ramming it with her own car.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman says the woman in a stable condition in hospital, after
being shot in the lower leg in Epping.

Assistant Commissioner STEPHEN FONTANA says the woman had confronted a man, before
slamming the pick-axe through the window screen of his car.

A police sergeant arrived just in time to see the woman slash the man across the face
with a knife.
