The Nation's Weather

Severe weather was expected over the Dakotas on Thursday night. Heavy rain, strong winds, large hail and possible tornadoes were forecast to spread into the upper Mississippi Valley.

The Northeast was expected to see scattered showers on Thursday. Moderate to heavy rainfall was forecast for southern New York later in the evening. Temperatures were predicted to drop before warming.

The Southeast was expected to see more scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Conditions were likely to be hot and humid along the Gulf states with highs approaching 100 degrees.
